WELCOME:This handout is meant to answer your questions about the Exams, homework, etc. Online classes are far from ideal. Please feel free to ask questions. I will try to answer most of them, perhaps online after the lectures.

HOMEWORK: Homework is posted on line.10% of your grade is computed from on-line homework using Lumen.You will have an opportunity to ask questions about some of the homework problems and the examples in the text online. (The text has plenty of examples in each section. You are expected to read them). It is very easy to fall behind. The only way to prevent this from happening is to keep up with the assignments. There is a lot of material to cover. It is expected that you will spend a lot of time working on the problem sets. Please feel free to request an online meeting.

OFFICE HOURS: We can arrange to meet on Blackboard by appointment

Exams: Tentatively there will be a quiz after each chapter administered on Lumen. The exact dates will be announced a week in advance. The final will also be administered on Lumen. The final counts as two quizzes. I will drop the lowest quiz score (if your lowest score is the final it will be counted as one quiz). THE QUIZZES ARE TIMED. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO EXTEND THE LENGTH OF A QUIZ IF YOU FAIL TO SUBMIT YOUR ANSWERS ON TIME. IF YOU MISS A QUIZ IT WILL BE COUNTED AS YOUR LOWEST GRADE. IF YOU MISS TWO QUIZZES YOU CAN GET A NCR FOR THE CLASS. THERE ARE NO MAKEUP QUIZZES.

GRADES: Your final grade will be based on 90% of the average of the quiz total scores plus up to 10% for your homework (on Lumen). Your letter grade is computed as follows:

0-59.9=F; 60-69.9= D; 70-77.4= C; 77.5-79.9= C+;

80-82.4=B-; 82.5-87.4=B; 87.5-89.9=B+; 90 - 92.4=A-; 92.5-97.4=A; 97.5-100= A+

IF YOU MISS THE FINAL and have a D or F average in the course (without dropping any grade!) YOU FAIL THE COURSE .Students on probation are not eligible for CR/NCR. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN INCOMPLETE YOU MUST HAVE A JUSTIFIED ABSENCE FROM THE FINAL EXAM AND HAVE TAKEN THE QUIZZES WITH AN AVERAGE OF 70 OR MORE.
