WELCOME: This handout is meant to answer your questions about the
   exams, homework, etc.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be given out on XXXX. You will have an
opportunity to ask questions about some of the homework problems
and the examples in the text the following week. (The text has
plenty of examples in each section. You are expected to read
them). It is very easy to fall behind. The only way to prevent
this from happening is to keep up with the assignments. If you are
having trouble it is important that you come to see me during my
office hours. I expect you would have tried all of the problems in the
homework and are prepared to ask questions.
OFFICE HOURS: My office hours are XXXXXX . If this time
is not convenient, we may be able to arrange a meeting at another
time. My office is 902HE. The Dolciani Learning Center has
computer assisted instruction and tutoring. I encourage you to
take advantage of this service if you are having trouble with the course.
EXAMS: There will be 3 exams and a CUMULATIVE final exam. The
final will count as two exams. The dates of the exams will be
announced a week in advance. Your lowest grade will be dropped (if
the final is the lowest grade, it will be counted once ). If you
miss an exam other than the final it will be dropped and not count
against you. If you miss TWO examinations prior to the final and
still want a grade for the course you must come and see me before
the end of the course, and even then I make no promises.
There are no makeup exams. If you stop attending the course and do
not withdraw, you will receive a WU. There are no exceptions.
GRADES: Your final grade will be based on the average of the
exams and is computed as follows:
     0-59=F; 60-69= D; 70-79= C; 80-89= B; 90-100= A

IF YOU MISS THE FINAL and have a D or F average in the course
(without dropping any grade!) YOU FAIL THE COURSE.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A GRADE OF CR/NC YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST TWO
EXAMS WITH GRADES 40 OR BETTER BEFORE THE FINAL. Students on
probation are not eligible for CR/NC.

IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN INCOMPLETE YOU MUST HAVE A JUSTIFIED
ABSENCE FROM THE FINAL EXAM AND HAVE TAKEN AT LEAST TWO
IN-CLASS EXAMS WITH AN AVERAGE OF 70 OR MORE.
