WELCOME:This handout is meant to answer your questions about the Exams, homework, etc.

HOMEWORK: Homework is posted on line.10% of your grade is computed from on-line homework using Lumen.You will have an opportunity to ask questions about some of the homework problems and the examples in the text the following week. (The text has plenty of examples in each section. You are expected to read them). It is very easy to fall behind. The only way to prevent this from happening is to keep up with the assignments. There is a lot of material to cover. It is expected that you will spend a lot of time working on the problem sets. Feel free to request an online meeting.

OFFICE HOURS:My office hours are by appointment.

My office is 902HE.

Exams: There will be 3 exams and a CUMULATIVE final exam. The final will count as two exams FOR A TOTAL OF 5 EXAM SCORES. The dates of the exams will be announced a week in advance. The exams are scheduled for about an hour. Your lowest grade will be dropped (if the final is the lowest grade, it will be counted once). THE SUM OF THE TOP 4 EXAM SCORES IS YOUR EXAM TOTAL SCORE. If you miss an exam other than the final it will be dropped and not count against you. If you miss TWO examinations prior to the final and still want a grade for the course you must come and see me before the end of the course, and even then I make no promises. There are no makeup exams. If you stop attending the course and do not withdraw, you will receive a WU. There are no exceptions.

GRADES: Your final grade will be based on 90% of the average of the exams total score plus up to 10% for your homework (on Lumen). YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE THE EXAM TOTAL SCORE. YOUR EXAM TOTAL SCORE WILL INCREASE 1 POINT FOR EVERY TWO CALCULUS WORKSHOPS ADMINISTERED BY THE MATH LEARNING CENTER THAT YOU ATTEND, UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 3 POINTS. Your letter grade is computed as follows:

0-59.9=F; 60-69.9= D; 70-77.4= C; 77.5-879.9= C+;
80-82.4=B-; 82.5-87.4=B; 87.5-89.9=B+;90 - 92.4=A-; 92.5-97.4=A; 97.5-100= A+

IF YOU MISS THE FINAL and have a D or F average in the course (without dropping any grade!) YOU FAIL THE COURSE .Students on probation are not eligible for CR/NC. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN INCOMPLETE YOU MUST HAVE A JUSTIFIED ABSENCE FROM THE FINAL EXAM AND HAVE TAKEN AT LEAST TWO IN-CLASS EXAMS WITH AN AVERAGE OF 70 OR MORE.
